Abigail is just in Moose Creek, Montana for the summer to temporarily care for her great aunt. But a tender-hearted cowboy beckons her to stay.

Abigail Jones intends to spend just one summer in middle-of-nowhere Montana with her Aunt Lucy. Time away from her job is just what Abigail needs to reassess her life. The slow pace has her breathing deeply for the first time in years. And the majestic scenery encourages her to get reacquainted with herself . . . and God.

What she didn't count on was the handsome widowed cowboy who owns the ranch where her aunt lives. When the rancher loses his daughter's nanny, Abigail decides to lend a hand for the summer.

Wade Ryan can't help being attracted to Abigail. But he's given up everything to protect his daughter, and he's not about to risk it all on a pretty face.

Under Abigail's care, Wade's home and daughter thrive. And with Wade's touch, Abigail's heart feels at home at last. But Abigail knows this elusive rancher is hiding something. Will her own secrets separate her from the cowboy who finally captured her heart?

"This is a well written and engaging book. The characters are believable and draw you into their lives. I felt sympathy and heart ache for them. The descriptions of the people and the scenery are perfect. They create a picture without being over the top (unlike Sir Walter Scott's descriptions). I would highly recommend this book to anyone. It is the first in a series but works well as a stand alone. In fact, I started with the second book and didn't know it was series till I looked up the Author (because I was so impressed with the second one in the series, "The Accidental Bride"). There is a subtle Christian POV to the novels if that bothers you -- don't read them. I, personally, felt it was not layered on too thick and enjoyed it."

  • This is a well written and engaging book. I, personally, felt it was not layered on too thick and enjoyed it.
  • This was my first solo read by Denise Hunter. In the past, I had read her contributions to the Smitten series.

Abigail works for her mother at a struggling magazine. When she starts having problems with hypertension and headaches, she is sent to the middle of nowhere in Montana and told to rest. While she's there, she's supposed to be checking in on her great aunt to see if she has the faculties to remain alone in her house.

Wade is hiding from his past. When his daughter's nanny backs out at the last minute, he's left with finding someone else in two days to watch her for the summer. Meeting Abigail seems to be the perfect solution, but he discovers that she's making her way past the wall that he erected around his heart when his wife died mysteriously. He was a big name in the rodeo world back then, now he's a quiet rancher out in the middle of nowhere.

When Abigail finds out who he is, she feels like God has given her the opportunity to save her mother's magazine. She begins her snooping, but what starts out as the perfect story soon turns into a crisis. How can she betray these people that have been so nice to her? And what about her feelings for Wade? She doesn't really believe that Wade had anything to do with his wife's death, but hides from Wade what she's up to. I found myself cringing at some of her decisions.

The second book is called The Accidental Bride and follows Shay, someone we get a few glimpses of in this book. Book 3 is The Trouble with Cowboys and is about Dylan, another person we meet in this book. Overall, I liked the book and look forward to reading more from this author.
  • The setting of Moose Creek, Montana, is as much a character in this book as Abigail Jones, a writer and workaholic sent to Moose Creek to keep an eye on her aging Aunt Lucy for a few months. In addition, Abigail may be able to resolve some health issues (headaches, palpitations, etc.) caused by her work schedule during the visit. Abby is immediately introduced to Wade Ryan, father of Maddy Ryan, who attaches herself to Abby to solve the mystery of who stole her bike, which, as an investigative writer, Abby agrees to do. Abby also investigates the mystery surrounding Wade, a former Texas rodeo star who went into hiding at Moose Creek. The revelations brought about this discovery and Abby's subsequent article will save her mother's publication from bankruptcy. In a plot point that seems contrived, Abby winds up living in Wade's house and serving as Maddy's nanny while investigating the mystery surrounding the cowboy. Although Wade seems closed and sometimes taciturn, Abby manages to get him to open up, and Abby begins to realize her feelings for him.

There are many parts of this novel that seem out of place for Moose Creek, such as Abby living in the same house with Wade and his daughter without raising anyone's eyebrow of propriety, and Wade's discovery of the article that Abby is writing. Still, Denise Hunter manages to write a very sweet romance that you hope will turn out well with all hearts intact.
  • Denise,
From the first chapter to the last, I smiled, laughed, frowned, cried and started the process again. Aunt Lucy was a hoot with her "family". Abigail, Maddie, Wade, and the many others in the book-it had you where you couldn't put the book down. I can't wait to read the other books in this series. Diane
  • Denise Hunter does a great job of making you feel the town and the setting. I felt myself longing for big open blue skies. I like the sizzle between the characters. I also liked how she touched on child abuse and how a witness can be victim themself. I'm giving this book 4 stars because it was a good read, just not one that makes me say "wow" at the end. I like Denise Hunter and have read all of her books. You won't waste your money, but if your looking for a strong Christian theme in her books, most of the time it isn't there. If you're looking for a slightly sizzling storyline, believable characters and sexy cowboys, this book is for you. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.
  • I have long enjoyed Denise Hunter's books and this one was great! Abigail Jones goes to Mooose Creek, Montana (A place I'd like to visit, too.) to check on her great aunt and get some much needed rest and relaxation. Instead she finds a job as a nanny to an awfully handsome cowboy with some secrets. I won't go into anymore plot details because I don't want to ruin it for those seeking help from these reviews. This book is another winner and I'm looking forward to the next one.
The author writes in such a way that her reader feels as if she's part of the story and can actually see the story. I loved the banter between Wade and Abigail. He was a romantic rascal and so was she!
    Don't miss this one!
  • Description of Wade had me blushing. What a hunk. I love how this author uses her faith to show readers what forgiveness and grace is all about. And she does it in such a fine way in this particular read.

The characters were funny, real and warm. They felt like friends of mine by the end of the series. I was one of the unfortunate souls who had the privilege of reading this series backwards. PLEASE DON'T DO THAT. it kind of ruins it. Read this first, Accidental Bride second and The Trouble with Cowboys third. I also liked Dylan's character. So sweet. And everytime i pictured his smile it made me smile too.
  • I am s cowgirl at heart from a big city. Loved the blending of two worlds and Abby is so real.
