"After reading Kai’s book, I will never look at reality television the same again. The public is lied to. I wish I had all the money back I spent purchashing merchandise from the Biggest Loser, thinking if I made the recipes or used the workout dvds, that I to could lose 10 pounds a week. I feel so awful for the contestants that did this to themselves. The public is thinking that they were doctor supervised when clearly they were not. My opinion on the trainers has clearly changed as well. I hope now that Kai spoke up all the rest will follow."

Losing It A Fictional Reimagining of my Time on Weight Loss Reality TV Kai Hibbard 9780578415529 Books Reviews
- I started watching the biggest loser in its 3rd season which also coincided with Ms. Hibbard's experience on the show. I remember how awful she appeared on that show, petty, scheming and just a plain old mean girl. A couple of years later I heard that she was coming out against the show and NBC was threatening to sue her. I read a little about it and then started following her "fan page" on Facebook.
my eyes were opened and the scales fell away or some other dramatic biblical reference.
Kai came across on Social Media as a genuine, honest, sincere, serious NICE person. The picture painted of her on "reality" TV was not reality at all. I'm not a reality TV fan at all but I never realized the lengths at which they went to control the narrative with creative cuts and scene sequencing until reading about Kai's experience.
This book tells a fictionalized version of her story from start to finish masterfully. The book is funny and full of pathos. I know this is Kai's first novel but it's clearly not the first time she's written something. The writing is crisp and the story draws you in and makes you care about the characters. Many first time authors devolve into purple prose in an effort to impress the reader with, of course, the opposite effect; Kai never does this. This book is the book of a professional writer.
If you want to learn about the behind the scenes nonsense that goes on when filming a reality show this is the book for you, if you just want a great story that grips you then look no further.
I would also encourage you to follow Kai on Facebook and Twitter. Her observations about body acceptance are thoughtful and enlightening. - I have been following the author for a while as she has spoken up for body acceptance and spoken out against weight-loss reality TV. This book is entertaining, heartbreaking, and encouraging to those of us who struggle with weight and body image. I loved it! Keep speaking out, Kai!!
- Loved it. Describes so well how the show created eating disorders in the contestants or worsened the ones already there. And how we swim in diet culture and how hard it is to see it.
- Of course, Kai was always my favorite competitor because she wasn't afraid to say what she felt (although I now know she could have said so much more). I am horrified to tears that I enjoyed watching this torture-fest every week. This book is a quick read and incredibly well written.
- I loved this book. The writing was smooth and compelling and the story made me feel so much better about myself. I used to beat myself for not being able to lose double digits in a week.
- Ms. Hibbard’s fictional retelling of her Biggest Loser experience is an enjoyable, yet horrifying read. Highly recommend!
- I have loved kai since her season on biggest loser, and this book is exactly why. She is honest, she is considerate, she has a unique tone and is a hard worker. This story is told with wit, dark humor, and the honesty you expect from Kai.
In addition to highly recommending that you buy this fast and interesting entertaining read, I want to attest to what a great person Kai is. Both in 2007 and again when I finished this book I wrote to Kai personally and both times she responded kindly and with inspiration.
Kai is a role model and I am so happy she has helped endless people by being a catalyst and fearlessly speaking about her struggles and helping expose the dangerous truths about the biggest loser- and ultimately helping get it off the air which removes future suffering of contestants.
I hope you read the book- kai is worthy of your business and I know you won’t regret it! - After reading Kai’s book, I will never look at reality television the same again. I hope now that Kai spoke up all the rest will follow.
