Ebook Brief Encounters A Collection of Contemporary Nonfiction Judith Kitchen Dinah Lenney Books

The best of short literary memoirs, essays, and reflections, many of which were written expressly for this collection. Also available
The late Judith Kitchen, editor of the perennially popular anthologies Short Takes, In Short, and In Brief, was greatly influential in recognizing and establishing flash creative nonfiction as a form in its own right. In Brief Encounters, she and writer/editor/actor Dinah Lenney expand this vibrant field with nearly eighty new selections shorts―as these sharply focused pieces have come to be known― representing an impressive range of voices, perspectives, sensibilities, and forms. Brief Encounters features the work of the emerging and the established―including Stuart Dybek, Roxanne Gay, Eduardo Galeano, Leslie Jamison, and Julian Barnes―arranged by theme to explore the human condition in ways intimate, idiosyncratic, funny, sad, provocative, lyrical, unflinching. From the rant to the rave, the meditation to the polemic, the confession to the valediction, this collection of shorts―this celebration of true and vivid prose―will enlarge your world.Ebook Brief Encounters A Collection of Contemporary Nonfiction Judith Kitchen Dinah Lenney Books

Brief Encounters A Collection of Contemporary Nonfiction Judith Kitchen Dinah Lenney Books Reviews :
Brief Encounters A Collection of Contemporary Nonfiction Judith Kitchen Dinah Lenney Books Reviews
- I was hoping for the best. I love flash non-fiction and have devoured and read over and over "Short Takes", "In Brief" and "In Short" all of which had Judith Kitchen as editor or among the editors. This one however is a very very poor imitation of the others. I have no idea why this is the case, but there are really only a few....less than an handful of pieces which I found appealing at all and these were ones that I had read elsewhere such as Swerve by Brenda Miller (though that is not the reason for liking them, they are simply better). Sorry to be so negative on this but any of the other three mentioned are much much better choices, as is the Rose Metal Press Field Guide to Flash Nonfiction which includes many excellent examples among the instructional essays and exercises.
- Wide-ranging. electric, eclectic—there is no better introduction to the art of the short essay—prose version of Cartier-Bresson's "decisive moment." I defy any reader to find a page in here that isn't leaving smoke and cinders in its wake.
- Strong examples of what can be done in very brief nonfiction. A perfect way to teach yourself or others about the range of form and content possible in the flash genre.
- The beauty of this collection is that it's wide-ranging and eclectic, with something for everyone, especially for those interested in flash nonfiction, who're likely to love most if not every piece in it. Judith Kitchen and Dinah Lenney have curated a powerhouse anthology including striking and inspiring work by some of today's best practitioners of creative nonfiction. This volume is a worthy successor to the previous Kitchen (and collaborators) anthologies of brief nonfiction.
- This is a terrific book. Every essay is full of insight and all written with style and intelligence. Something for everyone!
- A wonderfully diverse collection of short essays. I've already used it with creative writing students and will do so for many classes to come!
